GPS MUSEUM is a database about geolocated artworks and locative media dealing with art, gaming, ecology, cosmology, science, education, activism and softwares.I didn’t want to create the typical “google maps Mercator projection” to browse the database and geolocate the locative projects i have found during my numerous investigations on the web. Very soon we will be fed up with this mode of representation which is not quite satisfying to geolocate knowledge and because it is false and doesn’t respect the proportions between the countries. Yes, the map itself should be altered by the data we geolocate (see:worldmapper.com). This question of the adaptation between the representation of the map itself and the information will be the key place to debate in a next future.
Yes, the mode of representation of earth should be more flexible as Buckminster Füller understood in the years 50 with his “Dymaxion Map” (see:bfi.org).The map is a political affair and should be our affair, a permanent process of evolution, a multiplicity of ways to represent the earth and share locative information. The locative media “big-bang” is around the corner, it will change our ways to make art, make movies, write documentaries,build educational tools. Welcome to the birth of a new generation of mixed media combining the digital world and the physical world in a multiplicity of spaces and times.

GPS MUSEUM es una base de datos de trabajos creativos y artísticos de locative media. La geolocalización aplicada al arte, el juego, la ecología, la cosmología, las ciencias, la educación, el activismo y el software entre otros. No quería crear el típico mapa de google basado en la proyección de Mercator para navegar en la base de datos y geolocalizar cada proyecto he encontrado durante mis numerosas investigaciones en la web. Pronto estaremos hartos con este mapa de mercator omnipresente en cualquier pagina web y aplicación de geolocalización. Un modelo de representación que no es satisfactorio para poder geolocalizar conocimiento porque ademas es incorrecto y no respeta las proporciones entre los países. Si, el mapa en si debería estar alterado por los data que revela (ver:worldmapper.com ). Esta cuestión de adecuación entre la representación visual del territorio y la información en si va a ser un gran terreno de debate en un futuro próximo.
Claro que si, el modo de representación de la tierra debería ser mas flexible tal como lo había entendido Buckminster Füller en los años 50 con su mapa “Dymaxion Map” (ver:bfi.org)
El mapa es un asunto político y debería ser nuestro asunto, un proceso permanente de evolución, una multiplicidad de vías para representar la tierra e intercambiar información geolocalizada. El “Big-Bang” de los locative media esta a la vuelta de la esquina y va a cambiar nuestra manera de hacer arte, realizar pel√≠culas, escribir reportajes,construir aplicaciones educativas. Bienvenid@s al nacimiento de una nueva generaci√≥n de mixed media combinando lo digital con el mundo físico en una multiplicidad de espacios y tiempos.
